Authorities are increasing police presence at cricket watch parties in preparation for the ICC World Cup 2024.

The FBI's Nassau County office will collaborate with the NYPD and other local law enforcement agencies to ensure security. This decision comes after a pro-ISIS outlet shared a concerning image and message related to the tournament's host venue, Eisenhower Stadium. The image featured the new 34,000-seat stadium, which is located around 25 miles east of New York City, with drones in the background and text stating, "You wait for matches and we wait for you." The message specified June 9 as a significant date.

Although there is no evidence of a specific plot targeting the World Cup or a particular game on June 9, the inclusion of ISIS symbolism in the image is noteworthy. According to a senior law enforcement official, the intelligence assessment suggests that ISIS desires violence and aims to incite individuals through the circulation of their propaganda. The terror group often exploits chaos to further their sinister agenda worldwide. The official mentioned that they hope someone may be motivated to carry out an attack.

Former Homeland Security Advisor Michael Balboni cautioned, "The most dangerous threats are the ones that catch you off guard." He believes the vague nature of this threat intends to create turmoil and encourage followers to take action.

The upcoming game on June 9 between India and Pakistan, a major rivalry, is expected to draw a large crowd at the Nassau County stadium. Not only will spectators attend the match in person, but billions of people worldwide may tune in to watch. The law enforcement official stressed that because ISIS has mentioned the World Cup as an event, appropriate measures should be taken.

On Tuesday, Nassau County police declined to comment. However, county officials are scheduled to hold a security briefing on Wednesday. During this briefing, they will announce road closures and safety procedures to be implemented throughout the World Cup.
