The first person to get a genetically modified pig kidney transplant has died after two months. Richard “Rick” Slayman, 62, had the surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital in March. Surgeons hoped the kidney would last at least two years. Xenotransplantation uses animal organs for human patients. Recent advances involve modifying pig organs to be more compatible.
