Prosecutor appointed judge in St. Joseph County

Gov. Eric Holcomb appointed prosecutor Christopher Fronk to replace Judge Cristal Brisco on the St. Joseph County court in South Bend.

The U.S. Senate on Jan. 24 confirmed Brisco as a judge for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana, effective Jan. 26, 2024. The date Fronk will be sworn in as a judge is still to be determined.

Since 2015, Fronk served as chief deputy prosecutor in St. Joseph County. He handled homicide prosecutions. He also served in the La Porte County prosecutor’s office.

Fronk earned a bachelor’s degree from Valparaiso University and his law degree from the Valparaiso University School of Law.

Brisco is a 2006 Notre Dame Law School alumna.

“We extend our congratulations to Judge Brisco on her confirmation to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana,” said G. Marcus Cole, the Joseph A. Matson Dean and Professor of Law at Notre Dame Law School, in a press release . “Our Notre Dame Law School community is immensely proud of her, and we know she will be an exemplary judge.”

Brisco had served on the St. Joseph County Superior Court since 2021. She also worked as a St. Joseph County magistrate judge, general counsel St. Mary’s College, corporation counsel for the city of South Bend and an associate at Barnes & Thornburg LLP.
