HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – South Gibson School Resource Officer, Fred Schleter, was off-duty and came across a severe accident on the side of the road right outside Michigan City and comes to the rescue.

According to Chief SRO, Dan Lienemann, Schleter and other officers were in Michigan City for a training. Schleter was allegedly was the first responder on the scene of the accident.

While calling for local help, he apparently had to cut the seat belts from the passengers in the vehicle using tools from his patrol car. Lienemann says he administered medical attention to help stabilize the passengers until they were transported by life flight helicopters.

Lienemann says that Schleter’s swift actions gave the passengers a “chance of surviving this horrific accident” and that he is proud to have SRO Fred Schleter on his team.
