In 1993, Carol A. Rosati established what would become the municipal firm of Rosati, Schultz, Joppich & Amtsbuechler, representing public service and governmental agencies throughout Michigan. With a woman at the helm, the firm hired three female associates in its first year, all of whom remain with the firm more than 30 years later.

Over time, the firm’s dedication to the development and promotion of women attorneys has been demonstrated by its hiring females to males at a ratio of more than 50 percent, at all experience levels.Today, in addition to Rosati, seven of the firm’s shareholders are women.

The firm encourages its female attorneys to take on leadership roles representing women who are elected to office and female appointed officials. As a result, younger attorneys see women in prominent positions at the firm and find mentorship, and it helps broaden the reach of women professionals in other areas of practice.

While a lot has changed since 1993, the firm remains committed to advancing the careers and standing of its women attorneys by encouraging and facilitating their participation in professional activities events sponsored by the federal and state bar associations, educational opportunities, speaking engagements, client development events, networking opportunities, and community service while still providing an atmosphere and work-life balance for all of the firm’s attorneys, including the many who are working mothers.

Lisa Hamameh is the current president-elect of the State Bar of Michigan.Joellen Shortley just completed her term as the chairwoman of the Oakland County Bar Association’s Municipal Law Committee. Stephanie Morita was recently the Chair of the Appellate Practice Section for 2021-2022.

Rosati, Schultz, Joppich & Amtsbuechler strongly encourages each of its attorneys to be involved in their communities, engaging in the volunteer and philanthropic efforts which mean the most to them individually. Because work-life balance is so strongly emphasized at the firm, attorneys and staff are able to be coaches, volunteers, representatives, and advocates within their communities. The firm also cultivates a culture of collaboration and cooperation at the office to help make that possible.
