“Minnesota Twins Fields for Kids” helps Fargo Park District with ballpark updates
FARGO (KFGO/KVRR) — Fargo Park District has been awarded a “Minnesota Twins Fields for Kids” grant to update softball and baseball fields. Funds were used to replace the dugouts at Field #1 of Anderson Softball Complex. There were also upgrades to the bullpens on the baseball fields at Tharaldson Baseball Complex with new portable pitching mounds.

Jamestown Getting A New Hockey Rink
Jamestown is getting a new outdoor hockey rink. The new facility would replace the aging, rudimentary structure at McElroy Park and be designed large enough to host Hockey Day North Dakota in the future. The Parks and Recreation Commission unanimously approved a predesign and engineering agreement with Interstate Engineering. The Commission indicated that many of the items needed to construct the new rink would likely be donated. In other Commission news, they also unanimously approved a renovation to Nickeus Park, with the agreement with Interstate Engineering as well.
Blind Navy Veteran Lonnie Bedwell to Speak in Fargo
Lonnie Bedwell is a Former Navy Petty Officer, Extreme Sports Athlete, Motivational Speaker, Author, National Geographic's 2015 Adventurer of the Year and single father who was blinded in a 1997 hunting accident. Regardless of his catastrophic accident causing his blindness he has raised 3 daughters on his own and taught them to hund, fish and even to drive! He has gone on to kayak some of the most challenging whitewater int he world, competed the first blind descent of the Colorado river through the Grand Canyon, climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, summitted several of North America's highest mountains, rock climbs, and is an avid downhill skier. He is employed as a roofer in Duggar Indiana.
Applications Sought for Civil Service Commission
Bismarck Mayor Mike Schmitz is looking for candidates interested in serving on the Civil Service Commission. The volunteer committee has two open positions – one for a 3-year and a 4-year term. Individuals residing in the City of Bismarck who advocate for basing employment with the city service upon merit and fitness for the job are eligible for this appointment.
Sandbag Site Opening at Public Works Facility
A sandbag filling site is opening at 11 AM on Wednesday, August 14, near the City’s Public Works facility for anyone who needs sandbags. The City of Bismarck Public Works facility is located at 601 South 26th Street in Bismarck. The sandbag filling site will be located inside the large sand tent on the east side of the building.

Rain amounts have varied throughout Bismarck, with some areas reporting totals of nearly four inches north of the State Capitol grounds, and 2.75 inches in north Bismarck over a short duration of less than an hour.
