Vice President Harris and former President Trump are nearly tied in the critical battleground state of Michigan, according to a poll released four days after President Biden dropped out of the 2024 race and endorsed Harris.

Harris and Trump are both polling at 41 percent, according to a Detroit News-WDIV-TV poll conducted this week and released late Thursday. The poll was conducted among general election voters in Michigan, and Harris is polling ahead by a razor-thin third of a percentage point — well within the poll’s margin of error.

The poll also found that 10 percent of Michiganders support independent Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and 6 percent said they were undecided.

Among independent voters, Kennedy led with 27 percent support, Harris was behind him with 26 percent and Trump pulled in 25 percent, while nearly 18 percent said they were undecided.

Harris is making gains on Trump in Michigan in other polls, too. A survey released by Emerson College Polling and The Hill on Thursday found Trump leading Harris by 1 point in Michigan, a 3-point improvement over President Biden’s performance in the state.

Michigan is a crucial swing state that Democrats have been focused on holding on to after Biden won it in 2020 and Trump won it in 2016.

Biden faced a challenge with voters in Michigan in part due to his handling of the Israel war in Gaza, which has angered many Arab Americans. Michigan has a large population of Arab Americans, and one of the states’ members of Congress, Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D), is the only Palestinian American in the House.

Trump has also made appears to union workers, another significant population in the state.

The Michigan poll was conducted between Monday and Wednesday with 600 likely voters. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
