Attention, art and architecture enthusiasts! Mark your calendars for a captivating journey through architectural history at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts. The upcoming ArtBreak session titled "Upjohn’s Building 88" will offer an insightful look into one of Kalamazoo's significant, yet no longer standing, modernist landmarks.

Set to take place on Tuesday, May 21, from 12pm to 1pm, this ArtBreak talk hones in on the innovative design elements that set the Upjohn Company’s Building 88 apart. Designed by Bruce Graham of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the building was a local architectural gem before its demolition in 2007.

Dr. Christine Hahn, a Professor of Art History at Kalamazoo College, will lead the talk. She will delve into the building's history and its role as one of the country's earliest examples of the open office movement. By examining Building 88's design, Dr. Hahn will explore how it reflected modern notions of work and domesticity, merging the executive workplace with the comforts of home.

The event, which is part of the weekly ArtBreak series, will be held at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, located at 314 S Park St, Kalamazoo, MI.
