Frontal boundary over northern AL will begin moving back to the north as a warm front today. Though the risk of severe is low and confined to our western counties, a flood threat remains across the south. It is over this area that 2-3 inches of rainfall has fallen over the last 12 to 18 hours. additional rainfall amounts of one half to one inch will be possible across the watch area through tonight. Thus, some additional flooding will be possible. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday. Primary cold front will be working eastward across the mid state on Friday. Along and just ahead of the boundary, severe thunderstorms will be possible. The best chances for severe will be along our Plateau around midday. Damaging winds, large hail, and a few tornadoes will all be possible. In addition to the severe threat, windy conditions are expected, during the day on Friday, particularly on Friday afternoon. Once the front moves through, some additional subsidence will kick in and we could see some stronger wind gusts of as high as 55 mph. Some power outages are a distinct possibility. Winds will start to decrease Friday night. .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT... Spotter activation may be needed. A Flood Watch remains in effect for Maury County. Again we expect the area to be extended. But, for now here is what we know. As a cold front moves our way tonight, there is a risk of severe thunderstorms whereby damaging winds, hail and isolated tornadoes are all possible. In addition to the severe threat, the cold front will begin to slow down as it approaches southern areas this evening. Cells will move roughly parallel to the boundary and set the stage for flooding with 1 to 2 inch overnight amounts being common, but a few spots may approach 3 inches. The highest risk for flooding and severe weather will be south of I-40. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday. Tonight`s cold front will begin lifting back to the north as a warm front on Thursday. Dynamics will ramp up with additional heavy rainfall being possible during the day. Areas across southern Middle TN will be particularly vulnerable to the flood threat given the expected prior rainfall amounts. Through Friday, 3 inch rainfall totals or better are expected across the south with 1-2 inch amounts north. The final chance of severe storms will occur early Friday morning as the primary frontal boundary and pre frontal forcing moves through. Isolated tornadoes, damaging winds and hail will all be possible across the entire mid state from 6 AM in our west to noon along the Plateau. Look for windy advisory level conditions to come into play Thursday night and Friday. Gusts of 45 to 55 mph is looking more and more likely, particularly on Friday afternoon.
WEATHER ALERT- Flooding Likely, Severe Storms Possible 3-1-3,2023
It’s going to be a very wet, windy, and sometimes stormy 72 hours. Here in a nutshell is what the next 72 hours looks like:. Flooding is likely across Middle Tennessee. A Flood Watch has been already posted for Maury County. I would expect that to extend across Middle Tennessee by tomorrow. With already saturated ground and swollen creeks and rivers, localized flooding in those prone areas is also likely.

Well, February ends on a high note. an old weather saying is “If March comes in like a lion, it will go out like a lamb, and vice versa”. March is going to come in like a lion. Your March 1, 2023 will be mostly sunny to start but by late Wednesday thru Friday expect very heavy rains, embedded storms, and yes , more winds. I expect to see some flood watches and warning issued and a wind advisory at the least. Right now the best chance for severe weather seems to be Thursday thru Thursday evening.

Multiple systems during the second half of the week will present a few issues. Rainfall totals from Wednesday to Thursday night will run from 3 to 5 inches. This could cause localized flooding issues by Thursday and swollen rivers and creeks this weekend. Strong to severe storms are possible Thursday night. Damaging winds will be the main threat. While confidence is low on the severe threats, non- thunderstorms winds will be gusty again with 40 to 45 mph possible Thursday night and Friday.
