More Capital Region schools going phone-free as Hochul studies issue
School districts across New York are moving forward with plans to get students to put their cellphones down as state officials weigh a ban. A growing number of districts have plans to go cellphone free when school starts in September. The Greater Amsterdam School District will be using Yondr pouches — specialized cases that prevent students from using their phone during the day — for students in grades 6 through 12.
NC human trafficking arrest leads to fears of trafficking in other states
ROXBORO, NC (WDBJ) - Police in North Carolina are concerned about human trafficking in surrounding states after the arrest of a New York man. Alfredo Davis, 39, was arrested August 10 in Roxboro for trafficking. Investigators in Roxboro say their investigation began with a 911 call about a suspicious person near a bank. Police were given a vehicle and driver description, and they pulled the driver, Davis, over. Investigators then recovered nearly 40 alleged fraudulent identification cards, with different names, addresses and dates of birth, all containing the photograph of a 65-year old woman who was the passenger in the vehicle. Police seized several thousands of dollars in cash, personal checks alleged to be fraudulent or stolen, and marijuana.

Montgomery County man charged after domestic incident
A Montgomery County man is accused of is facing charges after a domestic incident. Officers responded to a residence in Tribes Hill on Aug. 12 for a report of a physical domestic incident. Dennis A. Church, 36, was charged with criminal mischief and harassment. In addition, he faces a charge of aggravated family offense because he has a prior conviction during the last five years.

Police: Rensselaer man had crack cocaine
A Rensselaer man is accused of possessing crack cocaine. Albany County sheriff’s deputies were patrolling the area of South Pearl Street and Madison Avenue after a business owner complained about an uptick in crime. They stopped Glendell Ellis, 58, for a traffic violation. He had around one ounce of crack cocaine, which was packaged for sale, investigators said.
Forest rangers rescue man stranded near Greene County waterfall
Forest rangers on Saturday rescued a man from Brooklyn who had gotten stranded near a Greene County waterfall during heavy rain. The 23-year-old had been stuck on the other side of the Fawn’s Leap waterfall in Hunter around 7 p.m. because of the high water. Five rangers set up a rope system to rescue him, according to the Department of Environmental Conservation.
Police: Amsterdam man sold narcotics
Police arrested an Amsterdam man Tuesday, after a monthslong investigation into narcotic sales. Raymond P. Feliciano, 42, was charged with two counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance. He was arraigned in Amsterdam Town Court and released on his own recognizance.
