Making the Case for Mass Timber
Mass timber is frequently labeled a luxury that cannot compete in price with traditional construction materials. The theory goes that wood, concrete, and stick-frame styles will be less expensive choices than mass timber, even if they do not have the same back-to-nature charm. But a recently completed two-year research project has found that mass timber, while more costly, is competitive, at least in Minneapolis, Denver, and Atlanta.
Local High School Implementing New Cell Phone Policy
BALLSTON LAKE — Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School will be implementing a new cell phone policy this year. When students return to school at the end of the summer, they’ll be required to place their phones in a “rack” or cubby near the door of each classroom. Students won’t be able to access their phones during class, but they can still use their phones during lunch and in the hallway between classes.

Mass. residents sickened in multi-state salmonella outbreak linked to cucumbers
Nearly a dozen Massachusetts residents have become ill as part of a multi-state salmonella outbreak that has been linked to Florida-grown cucumbers. Between March and June of this year, nearly 450 people across 31 states and Washington D.C. have become sick as part of the outbreak, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Of those who became ill because of the bacteria, 125 have been hospitalized.
Rock legends reuniting for ‘Last Waltz’ tour, including Upstate NY concerts
Two rock legends are reuniting for a special tour paying tribute to The Band’s Robbie Robertson. Guitarist Mike Campbell and keyboardist Benmont Tench, both founding members of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, will lead the “Life is a Carnival: Last Waltz Tour ‘24.” The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers will be joined by Ryan Bingham, Jamey Johnson, and Don Was for a series of concerts celebrating the music of Robertson and “The Last Waltz.”
