    Kayaker dies after going missing in Tioga-Hammond Lakes

    MIDDLEBURY TOWNSHIP, Pa. ( WETM ) — Authorities say a kayaker was found dead after a seven-hour-long rescue effort on Tioga-Hammond Lakes on Saturday.

    According to the Middlebury Township Volunteer Fire Department, first responders were called to Ives Run Lane in Middlebury Township just after 9 a.m. on July 27 for a report about a missing kayaker who was possibly trapped underwater. Multiple fire departments and rescue teams responded to look for the kayaker. Drones and boats were involved in the search.

    Rescuers found the kayaker dead about seven hours after the rescue mission began. The Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department said that it would not be releasing any details about the incident and extended condolences to the victim’s family.

    The Wellsboro Fire Department, the Tioga Fire Department, the Lawrenceville Fire Department, the Steuben County Dive Team, the Clinton Township Dive Team, Scuba 1, Drone 50, Laurel Mountain K-9 Search and Rescue, the Mansfield Hose Company, the Elkland Fire Department, the Old Lycoming Township Volunteer Fire Department, Northeast Search and Rescue, and Amigo Search and Rescue Dogs assisted the Middlebury Township Volunteer Fire Department with the rescue.
