    National champion MHS cheerleaders honored with highway sign

    The national champion MHS cheerleaders were honored on Thursday with the unveiling of a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet sign in front of the high school recognizing their achievement.

    State Rep. Adam Bowling and Mayor Boone Bowling were both on hand to read proclamations for the team.

    Adam Bowling shared the citation of achievement from the Kentucky House of Representatives that was done back in March.

    The House recognized and honored the members and coaches of the Middlesboro High School Cheerleading Squad during the 2024 Regular Session of the Kentucky General Assembly “for their extraordinary performance at the UCA (Universal Cheerleaders Association) National High School Cheerleading Championships in Orlando, Florida, where this celebrate group of athletes ultimately brought home a coveted national title in the Small Varsity Non Tumbling Division II Game Day category.”

    “Inasmuch as the the members and coaches of the MHS Cheerleading Squad have collectively demonstrated remarkable ability, perseverance, and skill and have brought tremendous honor and acclaim to MHS, Bell County, and the entire Commonwealth by the attainment of such a phenomenal level of success and achievement, the members of this distinguished body are delighted to join Representative Adam Bowling in congratulating these talented young Kentuckians upon this notable occasion and in extending to them best wishes for many future moments of success and continuing good fortune,” Bowling read from the citation.

    Mayor Boone Bowling proclaimed August 8, 2024, as MHS 2024 National Champion Cheerleading Day and also read the entire proclamation to the team.

    “Whereas the City of Middlesboro takes immense pride in the achievements of its youth and recognizes the dedication, hard work, and commitment of our local athletes; an the Middlesboro High School Cheerleading Team has exemplified excellence in athletic performance, teamwork, and school spirit throughout the 2024 competitive season; and

    Whereas the MHS Cheerleading Team has achieved the remarkable honor of being crowned the 2024 National Champions, showcasing their talent, discipline, and perseverance on a national stage; and the members of the MHS Cheerleading Team, along with their coaches, families, and supporters, have demonstrated unwavering determination and have brought pride to our community through their achievements; and

    Whereas, the spirit of cheerleading promotes not only athleticism but also camaraderie, school pride, and support for one another; and

    Whereas this victory serves as an inspiration to all citizens of Middlesboro, encouraging our youth to pursue their passions and strive for excellence in all their endeavors:

    I, Boone L. Bowling, Mayor of the City of Middlesboro, do hereby proclaim August 8th, 2024 as MHS 2024 National Champion Cheerleading Day in recognition of the extraordinary accomplishments of the Middlesboro High School Cheerleading Team.”

    Team members include: Alexis Marsee, Kennedy Yoakum, Shelby Vaughn, Olivia Johnson, Jaylyn Mink, Abney Allen, Zaida Flanary, Kamryn Foster, Shayla Ruiz, Alyvia Wilson, Aubrey Fuson, Thalia Partin, Haley Branham, Ava Barnett, Trinity Harriston and Amelia Emmett. They were coached by Shea Yoakum, Carlena Carter and Jennifer Green.
