The benefits of community theatre: a parent's perspective
As an avid theatre lover, I was thrilled to find Gettysburg Community Theatre (GCT) after moving to the area several years ago. As a parent, I was even more thrilled when I learned of the opportunity GCT provides for youth to become involved in theatre, even at a young age. Having both grown up participating in theatre, my husband and I convinced our eldest son to audition for “Winnie the Pooh Kids” two years ago when he was in third grade. At the time, he was fairly shy and tentative and wary of trying new things. Chad-Alan Carr, the founding executive/artistic director, and the volunteer production staff provide as simple, straightforward, and non-stressful an experience as an audition can be. They consider not only the audition but also the person’s desire and potential and take on the responsibility of developing young actors into seasoned performers.
