Letter: Better address veterans' needs
As a proud Pennsylvanian, son of a World War II Navy veteran and brother of a Marine and a Navy veteran, I am disappointed in the lack of real help for our heroes throughout Cumberland County. Our state representatives are happy to show up for ceremonies and photo opportunities, but where is the legislation and initiatives to solve problems like the veteran homelessness crisis? Homelessness is not a problem reserved for larger cities and urbanized areas; Carlisle and the county are experiencing this problem too. Recent estimates from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, in conjunction with local advocates, show there are likely over 100 homeless individuals in Carlisle and the surrounding area. I believe our representatives can and should do more to ensure the end of homelessness. This is precisely why I am running to be the next state representative for Carlisle, Newville, Newburg and the surrounding townships in the 199th district.
