MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTNH) — One man was arrested during an attempted street takeover on Saturday, July 13 on South Main Street in Middletown.

What are New Haven police doing to prevent illegal dirt bikes, ATVs?

According to a release, Middletown Police Officers responded to a report of a large group of dirt bikes in the area shortly before 6 p.m. An officer located a group of participants nearby at a Citgo Gas Station after the calls came in.

The street takeover participants were driving recklessly into oncoming traffic and blocking responding officers operating marked police cruisers.

The officer managed to arrest 31-year-old Anthony Miranda, of Port Monmouth, New Jersey, on scene while backup was called in due to the sheer number of individuals.

Miranda was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, interfering/resisting arrest, reckless driving, failure to stop for an emergency vehicle, obstruction of an emergency vehicle, failure to maintain proper lane, operating unregistered motor vehicle, operating motor vehicle without insurance, operating motorcycle without motorcycle endorsement, failure to have tail lamps and failure to have turn signals.

He was released after posting a $150,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear on July 26 in court.
