Four houses proposed at site of former Spring Hill Road animal rescue
MONROE, CT — Neighbors of the SPCA of Connecticut Animal Shelter railed against the facility at 359 Spring Hill Road when it first opened in the early 2000s, but the dog kennels were a grandfathered use. The owner, Frederick Acker, fought with town officials over the number of dogs allowed on the property over the years and, due to financial woes, the shelter closed down for good last year.

On July 19, 2024, at approximately 10:09 AM, the Shelton Police Department responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a motorcycle and motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Walnut Tree Road and Thompson Street in Shelton. Upon arrival, Shelton Police and EMS found a 21-year-old male and a 22-year-old female in the roadway with serious injuries.
