NEW CASTLE — The MOT Senior League softball all-stars moved one step closer to playing in the World Series on Friday night.

The Middletown-area squad pulled away to an 8-3 victory over New Castle-Suburban to capture the state title after winning both meetings in the best-of-three series.

The championship rearns MOT a ticket to the East Regional in Worester, Mass. At stake in the regional is a berth in the Senior League World Series being played at Lower Sussex.

Friday’s contest was tied 2-2 before MOT took control with a four-run fourth inning. MOT picked up runs on a single from Kamryn Tuffy and a Bridget Archer double before Mackenzie Landry followed with a two-run single.

Landry collected three of MOT’s nine hits while Myranda Talmadge pitched a six-hitter with 11 strikeouts. New Castle-Suburban scored twice in the first inning on Kimora Washington’s two-run home run.

The East Regional is slated to start on July 20. District I champion MOT, which beat New Castle-Subirban 9-6 on Thursday, is now 5-0 in all-star tourney games.
