MIDDLETOWN, NJ — In a dramatic turn of events this morning, a swimmer in distress was miraculously rescued by a local fisherman and his son. Around 9:00 a.m., Middletown Township Police received an urgent call about a man pulled from the waters between Sandy Hook and New York City.

The man, identified as Pete Ordane, 34, from New York City, was spotted by the fisherman and his son approximately two miles off the Sandy Hook shoreline. Observing Ordane struggling in the water, they swiftly brought him aboard their boat and transported him back to Monmouth Cove Marina in Port Monmouth.

Ordane told officers he had entered the water near Breezy Point in Queens, New York City, and had been swept away by the tide, leaving him treading water for several hours. Despite the ordeal, he was found to be in good condition and declined further medical treatment after being examined by emergency medical personnel at the marina.

Before arranging transportation from the area, officers provided Ordane with dry clothes and some food. The Middletown Police praised the quick-thinking fisherman and his son, residents of Port Monmouth who chose to remain anonymous, for their heroic actions that undoubtedly saved Ordane’s life.
