The cities of Dayton and Columbus as well as Everytown For Gun Safety settled a four years-long court battle this week with the state of Ohio over the criminal background check system. The program is a well-known protection to ensure people with a serious criminal convictions aren’t able to purchase a firearm, but it’s also used to ensure they aren’t hired to a position of trust, like a teacher or police officer.

Hillsboro woman sentenced to over two years
A Hillsboro woman was sentenced to over two years in prison on multiple charges from two different cases. Shawna Willey, 30, Hillsboro, was sentenced to eight months on one count of aggravated possession of methamphetamine, a fifth-degree felony, which was ordered to be consecutive to 17 months from another case of one count of failure to appear, a fourth-degree felony. Willey was also given 25 days of jail time credit.
Cincinnati to start notifying residents living in homes with lead water lines
An estimated 35,000 residential properties in Cincinnati have potentially dangerous lead service lines for drinking water, and the city hopes to replace all of them by 2037. Greater Cincinnati Water Works (GCWW) is launching a public notification effort to contact everyone living at these properties over the next few months.
