PERMIAN BASIN (KMID/KPEJ) – June is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month and local advocates in the Basin are doing their part to raise awareness about the disease.

“About 12 to 13 percent of the population in Midland and Ector County of those over the age of 65 are living with the disease. So, it’s really important that people know what’s out there, how to talk about the disease, how you know what the treatments now are for that, how to reduce your risk for developing Alzheimer’s and dementia. So it’s really all about the brain this month,” said Julie Gray, Director of Development with the West Texas Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

The Alzheimer’s Association will be hosting its “2024 Walk to End Alzheimer’s” at the Scharbauer Sports Complex in October. Registration is open and you can sign up here .
