Basin Bites: Pachuco’s blends flavors from all cultures with delicious results

MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – Pachuco’s is not your typical BBQ spot in West Texas, instead it’s a fusion of multiple cultures all blended together. To go along with the food, you also have the Chicano vibes that are present from the murals outside of the building to the moment you step in with the art and oldies music playing.

Owner Ruben Carrasco Jr, who is originally from El Paso wanted to bring the culture he grew up with and bring it into the food world.

“We align that with our restaurant and how we do our food. Just creating our own lane, our own, you know, influence,” said Carrasco Jr. “We take influence from different cultures and, you know, just make it our own.”

Now the man in the kitchen, Chef Jaime Del Campo said to me when it comes to the food he makes, “Ruben points, I shoot, I execute whatever he wants done.”

As I mentioned earlier, Pachuco’s is a blend of multiple cultures all in one. Of course they have their traditional BBQ with brisket, ribs and all that good stuff. However, this is where things get different. Here’s a few of the dishes that Del Campo had to offer, a peanut butter and jalapeno jam burger, Korean fries, saudero tacos and cream of hominy.

The burger itself was quite the surprising combination that I did not expect. The warm peanut butter to go with the saltiness of the burger/bacon and the sweet spice kick with the jalapeno jam made it a hit for me.

The Korean fries were another twist that was a hit on the first bite. You had your Korean style beef with carrot shreds, cilantro and green onions all topped with sriracha mayo.

My favorite part of this whole platter had to be the sauredo taco and this is because on the first bite it reminded me of home (which is Los Angeles). Probably something that I would order quite a few more times down the line.

If you ever have time and are looking for a place to hit over the weekend or on your lunch break, I highly recommend Pachuco’s which is located at 316 N Big Spring St, Midland, TX 79701.
