Chicago sues 2 suburban gun shops, accuses them of contributing to crime in city
CHICAGO (WBBM) -- The City of Chicago is suing two suburban gun shops accused of contributing to crime in the city. The newly expanded lawsuit named Eagle Sports Range in Oak Forest and Midwest Sporting Goods in Lyons as defendants. The parent company of Glock Handguns in Austria was also added as a defendant.
Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center In Joliet Is Being Sold
WJOL is exclusively reporting that Prime Healthcare is acquiring Ascension’s 9 hospitals in Illinois including Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. Staff will be told on a conference call this morning. Prime Healthcare has locations is in 14 states with 44 hospitals and more than 300 outpatient locations. The acquisition would also include Ascension St. Mary in Kankakee.

CHICAGO (CBS) — The Board of Education will vote on Thursday on the 2025 budget, with Chicago Public Schools hoping to close a large budget gap. However, the Chicago Teachers Union is planning to rally against it.CPS is proposing to close a $500 million budget gap, which the board says it has a plan to fill. The plan includes cutting main office staff, restructuring long-standing debt, and eliminating at least 300 vacant Chicago Teachers Union positions.The school district is counting on those vacant positions to cut $220 million from the spending plan. Chicagoan jet skies 100 miles across Lake Michigan to support Chicago Police Memorial Foundation
Chicagoan Frank Giannelli set out of Monroe Harbor early Thursday morning to raise funds for the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation.ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watchThe jet skier had an audience as he trekked out of the Chicago shore at 7:15 a.m. Giannelli's intention is to trek 100 miles across Lake Michigan to Saugatuck, Michigan.The full journey across the lake should be around three hours.Giannelli has already raised $25,000 for Get Behind the Vest, which helps Chicago police purchase bullet proof vests.With the money already raised, the foundation can purchase 50 vests for CPD.Police officers receive their first vest when they are sworn in, however they are responsible for paying for the replacement.To learn more about the organization, click here.
Ald. William Hall Moving 6th Ward Office To Former Mercy Medical Building In Chatham
CHATHAM — Ald. William Hall (6th) is moving his ward services just a year after celebrating the grand opening of his first South Side office. The 6th Ward office will reopen Aug. 1 at 8541 S. State St., Hall announced on his social media pages Monday. Hall’s new headquarters is in the same building as the Trilogy wellness center, which provides mental health services to South Side neighbors.
Loretto’s blood drive spotlights African-American health
Austin’s Loretto Hospital is hosting its 4th annual Summer Screening Series, a free event that this year focuses on blood donations and kidney health checks. Officials said that this year, they are highlighting the importance of African-American blood donors to increase collections of Type O blood and to help fight sickle cell disease. The need for donations in this is urgent, they said, because one in three African-American blood donors is a match for patients with sickle cell disease. Statistics show that 51% of African Americans have Type O blood, in contrast with 45% of Caucasians.

ROGERS PARK — A six-story apartment building could be coming to a vacant Rogers Park lot, but some neighbors say the plan is too dense and doesn’t have enough parking. Developer 5035 Land Owner, LLC is asking Ald. Maria Hadden (49th) for a zoning change to move forward with building 52 apartments at 7728 N. Sheridan Road. There wouldn’t be any retail space included in the project.
