Federal fugitive arrested after SWAT situation in Midvale

UPDATE 6:45 p.m. 7/3 — Officials told ABC4.com that the suspect — who was said to be armed and dangerous — was apprehended.

Officials from South Salt Lake, West Jordan SWAT, and other agencies were involved.

After the suspect was taken into custody, officials said the public was safe.

ORIGINAL STORY: SWAT situation unfolding in Midvale, federal fugitive involved

MIDVALE, Utah ( ABC4 ) — The Unified Police Department was assisting other agencies in an attempt to apprehend a federal fugitive on Wednesday afternoon.

UPD posted on social media to say that it was assisting the U.S. Marshals in the apprehension of the fugitive. Officials did not immediately release more information about the suspect or what they were wanted for.

UPD first alerted ABC4.com about the incident around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Midvale City posted on social media just before 6 p.m. to ask residents to avoid the area of Holden Street at Main Street and Center Street near City Hall.

“While there is no danger to the public, the streets are currently closed,” the city said.
