MIDWEST CITY, Okla. ( KFOR ) — A young boy is dead after being pulled out of a burning home in Midwest City Thursday morning. His mother is still fighting for her life at the hospital.

Midwest City Fire Department said they got to the house within four minutes of the first call.

“Got here really fast. Noticed that there was flames coming out of the front door of the house,” said Bert Norton, the Midwest City Fire Chief.

Fire crews said they weren’t sure if anyone was inside the home at first, but realized there were people once they went inside.

“They were able to find two victims inside the house, got them taken out and got them put in an ambulance, transported to the hospital,” said Norton.

Norton said it was just a mother and her child inside the home at the time of the fire.

“They had some obvious signs that they had some some exposure to the fire and the heat and the flames,” said Norton.

Fire crews don’t know how it started yet, but a neighbor in the area said he heard something minutes before.

“I had just gotten up and I heard a very subtle pop sound. I could talk to my neighbor. He said he heard the same sound a couple streets down. It wasn’t but about five to 10 minutes later that we saw the fire trucks going by,” said Ben Warnick who lives in the neighborhood.

Hours after the fire, crews started clearing out the home as family related to the victims arrived there.

Tears were filling their eyes as they talked with firefighters and comforted one another.

“We always do try to identify the cause of the fire. But with, you know, the patients and the victims there, then there’ll be more pictures and photos that are taken of some more extensive due to the nature of that,” said Norton.

Firefighters are still investigating the cause of the fire.
