"A Night with Spirit” Comes to Rutherford… with Psychic Medium Roy Tomko

“I have always been aware of the gift, but it was not until four years ago that I was inspired to focus it on helping others connect with spirit,” says Roy Tomko.

As a psychic medium, Roy Tomko speaks to dead people. Or, as his legions of fans can attest to, he not only speaks with them, he delivers messages from the spirit realm to loved ones who are still living.

Roy Tomko has built a substantial following online, largely in part because of his readings with notable reality television stars including Margaret Josephs from The Real Housewives of New Jersey that have been posted on Youtube. “My audience has developed through word of mouth, mostly,” he acknowledges, “and through my social media accounts and website, SpiritTalkwithRoy.”

Though he is based in New Jersey, a majority of Mr. Tomko's clients are west coast based, which has worked fine for him, since he is able to do readings virtually through Zoom from his Bergen County home. However, since the new year, he has been concentrating on building his local audience and is excited to demonstrate his abilities in a live, hometown show.

On Monday, Jun 10 at 7:30pm, Roy Tomko will host a small gallery reading at 18th Amendment in Rutherford, NJ. He’s calling it "A Night with Spirit”, where he will take the stage and connect select audience members with their deceased loved ones. “I don’t choose who gets readings,” Roy Tomko adds. “I’m simply guided by Spirit.”

For many, the evening presents a rare opportunity to meet live and in-person with the medium. The wait to receive a one-on-one session with Roy Tomko is currently five-months.

That’s because, thanks to the popularity of television shows like John Edward’s Crossing Over, Theresa Caputo’s Long Island Medium and Tyler Henry’s Life After Death, connecting with Spirit has become something of a favorite American pastime. Many people are desperate to connect with loved ones who have passed and are hopeful to receive validation of their existence. “There is nothing more powerful than helping people find peace, closure and happiness,” Roy Tomko reflects. “Connecting with our loved ones who have passed helps many of us to move forward after the grief of losing them.”

While there are similarities to how all mediums perform, Roy Tomko says that most approach the job in their own ways. “Every psychic medium communicates and receives information differently.” For Tomko, he uses a technique called claircognizance, known also as "clear knowing". It is a psychic ability that involves the psychic just knowing information they couldn't possibly know normally. “You can imagine it as knowledge pouring into the top of my head,” he explains.

He also employs spirit guides. “I have a few, actually. I have one that I count on a lot who is my main, and then I have a good amount more who step in for additional help when needed.”

Mr. Tomko describes there being alternate vibrational plains all around us. These plains are where he connects with Spirit. They will often appear differently to him, depending on the sitter he is working with, however, in whatever form Spirit appears, he believes his job is to simply be a vessel. “My main objective with every reading is to provide healing in a safe and comfortable environment where the sitter can fully embrace the messages from their loved one.”

In order to succeed, Mr. Tomko understands he must build trust with his reader by providing evidence that Spirit is indeed present. He says one of the best rewards of what he does is that inevitable OMG moment when the sitter begins to realize that the reading is, in fact, for real. “Once the trust it established, that’s when the real work can begin,” he says.

He is looking forward to the live gallery reading at 18th Amendment as readings are always fun and uplifting. He points out, however, that not all in the 75-person crowd will receive a personal reading. Mr. Tomko’s advice to attendees hoping to hear from loved ones is to encourage their dearly departed to appear at the reading. “Ask your loved ones in spirit to step forward in your mind and in your heart before attending the event.”

Spirit is always around their loved ones, he insists. “They may step away for some moments, but they make themselves known again during times we call upon them or when we are going through something challenging in our lives. Spirit knows when to step in and when to step away.”

If your loved ones do not appear at "A Night with Spirit”, do not despair. According to Roy Tomko, the experience of watching others receive their messages is empowering and healing in itself. “Everyone always leaves a gallery reading feeling much more at peace than they did when they arrived.”
