After Michigan’s dramatic success in winning the national championship earlier this year, college football fans across the country have been itching for more drama. Now, the countdown is on for 2024’s Week 1, when America’s Division I programs commence their college football campaigns.

As the clock ticks down to the start of the 2024 NCAAF season, the time is right to assess the teams most likely to dominate their respective conferences this year.

    Georgia Bulldogs

It looks like the SEC Championship will be a two-way battle between Georgia Bulldogs and the Texas Longhorns. In fact, the Georgia Bulldogs are the favorite team to win the CFP National Championship outright according to Oddschecker . The Bulldogs are priced as short as +200 to win the SEC Championship and just a shade higher at +300 to win the entire championship. All of which suggests that, if the Bulldogs can top the SEC, they’ll be in great shape to go deep in the postseason.

At the SEC Media Days, 165 reporters covering the league said the Bulldogs would win the Southeastern Conference title, compared with just 27 who picked their closest rivals, Texas. Under head coach Kirby Smart , Georgia are creating a new dynasty akin to that of the Alabama Crimson Tide.

    Ohio State Buckeyes

The Buckeyes are the heavy favorites to win the Big 10 Championship, with the Oregon Ducks hot on their tail. This is likely to be the theme of the regular season for Ohio State, who are currently second favorites behind Georgia to lift the National Championship.

The key to the Buckeyes’ success is likely to be their quarterback, Will Howard . ESPN recently ranked him as the most influential player in the 2024 College Football Playoff race. He’s in his fifth season with the Buckeyes and at the age of 23 he’ll be vastly experienced compared with most of his peers.

    Boise State Broncos

There is every chance that the Broncos can repeat last season’s feat of becoming Mountain West Conference champions. It’s hard to put a finger on why, but something seemed to click for Boise State after head coach Andy Avalos was sacked. The team's former defensive coordinator Spencer Danielson oversaw a dramatic turnaround in fortunes last season, taking the Broncos all the way to the Mountain West Conference crown.

Within their roster for 2024-25 are 10 returning players who were all-conference picks last season. Running back Ashton Jeanty was named the Group of Five Offensive Player of the Year and racked up 14 touchdowns last season. The Broncos are likely to need even more from him this term.

    Liberty Flames

The Flames are currently the most overwhelming favorites to win a conference in the 2024 NCAAF regular season. Liberty were one of the newest additions to Conference USA last season and boy, did they take it by storm. They won every single game to comfortably clinch the Conference USA title at the first time of asking.

Sportsbook traders are even more bullish on their prospects in 2024. The Flames’ schedule looks to be one of the least intense, too. Only four of the teams they face had winning records in 2023/24.

    Memphis Tigers

Quarterback Seth Henigan is due to start his fourth year with Memphis. He’ll benefit from the return of all the Tigers’ best receivers from last season in 2024. In fact, the entire roster from last season is back for this term, with continuity abound.

In the AAC, the Memphis Tigers have got the edge over Tulane Green Wave. The Tigers landed an impressive 23 out of 30 votes from the media to take first place in the AAC. The team will be hoping to be the G5 representative in the College Football Playoff this year. A conference title will be first on the agenda, though.

If it’s dominance you’re looking for this coming season, the above quintet of teams looks lean and mean and. They are set to win most if not all their respective conference games.
