Fact or Fiction: Texas A&M’s Struggles, Michigan’s Title Defense, and Miami as ACC Favorite

In today's Fact or Fiction I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it's FICTION.

1.  Texas A&M has a long way to go

My Take: FACT

Coming into this season, Texas A&M was looking to be a completely revamped team, with new head coach Mike Elko . However, the more things change, the more they stay the same for the Aggies, as they had a disappointing showing against Notre Dame in primetime. It looks like it could be a long season in College Station. The Aggies' offense was stale, and QB Conner Weigman looked pitiful, throwing two interceptions. Notre Dame moved right down the field late in the 4th quarter, and Weigman's incomplete pass on 4th down sealed the Aggies' fate. With a tough SEC schedule, I find it hard to believe we will see Mike Elko and Texas A&M contend this season.

2. Michigan has a chance to repeat

My Take: FICTION

Everyone knew this year's Michigan squad would have been a totally different look from the title-contending teams of the past seasons, but they didn't look very good in Week 1. Sherrone Moore shocked many when he announced Davis Warren as the starter over Alex Orji , but Warren struggled against Fresno State , putting up a QBR of only 33. Orji played one series late in the game as Michigan pulled away, but Michigan only led 16-10 late in the 4th quarter, so this game was much closer than the final score indicates. Losing a significant portion of the roster and a head coach is never easy, and Michigan looks very different from what we’ve seen in the past. Considering how some other Big Ten foes looked yesterday, it’s hard to see Michigan even coming close to repeating—especially if they lose to Texas next weekend.

3. Miami is the clear ACC favorite

My Take: FACT

Miami entered this season with huge expectations, as they got QB Cam Ward in the portal. They had a big opportunity on Saturday to kick off their season on the right foot, and they did just that, dominating Florida in The Swamp with a 41-17 victory. Cam Ward and the Canes were the talk of college football on Saturday as Ward impressed with 385 passing yards. The Canes looked great in the win, and with a struggling ACC and a very favorable schedule, it feels accurate to say that Miami is the favorite in the conference.
