Hollywood Stars Film in Downtown El Paso: Leo & Benicio Spotted

A film project with Leonardo DiCaprio as its lead is currently filming in El Paso, and by all accounts the movie’s star is in town.

A social media post on FitFam El Paso shows the Academy Award winner and fellow castmate and Oscar winner Benicio del Toro shooting scenes and dining downtown.

What Are They Filming?

As I previously reported, a Warner Bros. Pictures movie crew has been in El Paso since late May working on the “Untitled Paul Thomas Anderson Event Film,” also referred to as “BC Project.”

Besides DiCaprio and Del Toro, the project stars Sean Penn and Regina Hall, according to IMDB. Very little about the plot is known as the storyline is being kept under wraps.

Warner Bros. is paying El Paso County $25,000 for use of a county-owned parking lot and building “to stage equipment, sets, film support and catering vehicles including mobile facilities for hair, makeup and costumes,” per county documents.

County Commissioners approved and authorized the County Judge to enter into an agreement with the movie company during the May 20, 2024 Commissioners Court meeting to lease a parking lot and an unoccupied building on South Campbell Street through July 30.

The county has gotten into the movie-making business to promote the El Paso area as a locale for the development and production of film, movie, and other media and to provide employment, revenue, and economic development to El Paso County.

Several businesses have posted on social media that they’ve been hired to provide numerous services for the movie company.

While the majority of filming has taken place in various locations around California, per IMDB, scenes were recently shot in El Paso’s Segundo Barrio and the Chihuahuita neighborhood near downtown, as well as in downtown itself.

According to FitFam El Paso, “security [is] heavy in the area, with entire blocks being cordoned off for the production.”

Followers of the Instagram account have submitted photos of DiCaprio and del Torro spending time off the set downtown and at local restaurants.
