Angel Fire Resort Reimagines Fourth of July with First-Ever Spectacular Drone Light Show

    2023-06-20

In a dazzling departure from tradition, Angel Fire Resort, nestled in the Rocky Mountains of northern New Mexico, is set to illuminate the night sky with a high-tech drone light show, replacing the usual Fourth of July fireworks. This innovative approach, a first for northern New Mexico, comes as part of a week-long Independence Day celebration filled with music, sport, and community fun.

Last year, the nearby Moreno Valley endured the devastating Calf Canyon/Hermit's Peak wildfire, one of the most significant in New Mexico's history, torching over 340,000 acres. Even though the area has enjoyed one of the wettest springs on record, resort authorities and the Village of Angel Fire chose to prioritize safety with a drone show months in advance.

Drone light shows are gaining popularity, especially in drier regions. As Ralph, a spokesperson from the resort, explains, "What once was Fourth of July fireworks displays are now being replaced by large swarms of small drones with colored lights. It reduces wildfire risk, pollution, and loud noises. We're excited to add it to our list of activities for the holiday."

Angel Fire Resort, known for its year-round array of activities such as golf, mountain biking, hiking, fishing, ziplining tours, and disc golf, has planned a series of events beginning from June 30. The week kicks off with a live concert featuring Pollo Frito in Frontier Park and Tom Perry performing at the Angel Fire Country Club.

The weekend will continue with a unique 'Capture the Flag' event at Angel Fire Bike Park, followed by more live music at the Country Club. The Angel Fire's Rotary Club will host a pancake breakfast on July 2nd to raise funds for scholarships and the inception of a Community Garden.

On the same day, there will be a lakeside party at Monte Verde featuring boat races and field games, accompanied by a Farmer's Market showcasing fresh produce and local art.

On July 3rd, a skate festival organized by the Village of Angel Fire and the Overland Project will bring the local skateboarding community together for demonstrations and competitions.

The Fourth of July festivities will start with a vibrant parade on Bill Burgess Blvd, followed by a party at the Angel Fire Country Club with smoked BBQ, games, and live music. As dusk settles, attendees will gather at Frontier Park for a spectacular drone light show.

As part of the celebrations, Angel Fire Resort is offering an 'Outdoor Adventure Pass.' Guests who book a stay at the resort will receive a free activity, such as a scenic chairlift ticket, a boat or paddleboard rental, a children's fishing permit, a round of disc golf, a bucket of balls for the driving range, or a game of tennis at the resort's tennis center.
