One adult male was found dead inside of a home in Milaca on Friday, June 14.

Neighbors reported the sounds of gunshots inside of a home at approximately 2:30 p.m.

The Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call, and upon arrival, surrounded the home located in the 500 block of Fifth Street SE. in the event of a possible active shooter, according to Mille Lacs County Sheriff Kyle Burton.

Deputies announced their arrival to which they received no response from within the home.

At approximately 3:10 p.m., a SWAT team and drone were called onto the scene and nearby homes were evacuated, according to the Minnesota Crime Watch scanner.

Deputies then attempted to call the owner of the home where the gunshots were reported, and the calls all went to voicemail, Burton said. According to the Minnesota Crime Watch, the subject was suspected to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

After no response to commands from deputies or answers to their phone calls, deputies searched the home and located the home owner dead in the garage, Burton said. According to Burton, the suject appears to have died by suicide.

No other individuals were reported injured or deceased within the residence.

The Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office did not release the name of the deceased individual for the privacy of the family.
