    By Chloe Smith,

    2024-07-04

The Milaca City Council conducted the following business during the meeting on Monday, June 24. Written by Chloe Smith.

    Audit

The Milaca City Council reviewed the city’s audit presentation for 2023. According to the city’s auditors, Milaca received an unmodified opinion on its audit, which indicates that the audit was clean and the auditors did not find anything of concern with the city’s finances and that all of its financial statements were accurate. According to the auditor, the only item of note in the audit was a lack of segregation of duties within city staff. However, the auditor stated that this was very common for cities of similar size to Milaca and is not much of a cause for concern. Following the audit presentation, the council approved the 2023 audit.

    Amending disturbing the peace ordinance

The Milaca City Council introduced amendments to its current ordinance related to disturbing the peace and conduct within the city. The amendments include two main changes. The first change would remove language that bans the offenders from potentially being banned from city parks for a period of three years by action of the City Council. The second change would add language to adjust the time period the offender could be banned from city parks to up to one year from the date of issuance of a trespass notice by a peace officer. If no further changes are requested by the council, the changes are set to be approved during the next council meeting.

    Drug and alcohol testing

The Milaca City Council adopted a resolution that adopts the drug and alcohol testing and Drug-Free Workplace Act policy for noncommercial drivers within the city. All city employees and applicants that are required to hold a commercial driver’s license are tested under the city’s current policy. The adoption of this new policy will also allow the city to test employees and applicants who are not required to hold a commercial driver’s license.

    Planning and zoning

The Milaca City Council approved and welcomed two new members to the Milaca Planning and Zoning Committee. Mitchell Siemers and Jake Lepper were voted to join the committee.
