MILAN (WWJ) Lightning struck four people attending a concert in Monroe County, according to the Milan Fire Department.

The Milan Fire Department said the lightning strikes injured four people at the end of the Mud Bash Saturday night at Milan Dragway on Plank near Snell in Milan. The town is about 20 miles south of Ann Arbor.

Fire crews were on standby because a concert was taking place as the storms moved in. Security people on the scene called for help after the lighting strikes, Milan Fire said.

Fire officials described the injured as “middle-aged adults.” Two of them went to the University of Michigan Medical Center to be evaluated.

“None of the injuries appear to be serious,” Milan Fire said in the statement.

According to Weather.gov ; a lightning strike can cause numerous short-term health problems including muscle soreness; headache, nausea and other post-concussion symptoms; dizziness and balance issues, and mild confusion.

Longterm cognitive challenges can, but do not always, develop, including: chronic pain, ringing in the ears, personality changes and forgetfulness.

In this case, Milan Fire officials said the lightning shocked the people but did not burn them.

The Milan Mud Bash describes itself as “4 days of dirty mud bogging fun, open bog, free style, live music and more!” The events were shut down Saturday as the storms moved in, but they are now back open.
