We promise, the proverbial dam is about to break on some stories that we have been working on for a while now, so stay patient and this site will not be quite so barren in the very near future. Anyway, we’re kicking off the weekly roundup of all things local beer with the return of Dr. Ink Me, the annual collaboration between Boxing Bear and Gallo Negro Tattoo. This year’s version of this special IPA has been dubbed Pineapple Pearalysis, so you can guess which two fruits were added to the recipe. It will be available in cans and on draft starting at Saturday’s Ignite 4.0 event, held at 2505 Craftwerks Studio, which is conveniently located at 2505 Quincy NE. There will be flash tattoos, a hair show, and a slew of artisan vendors and food trucks. The party runs from 6 to 10 p.m.
76-Year-Old Felon Charged with Illegal Possession of Firearms and Explosives in Las Cruces
Frederick Urban, a 76-year-old man from Chaparral, has been charged with illegal possession of firearms and explosives after a tip-off led to the discovery of a vast arsenal at his Las Cruces residence. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Urban, who has a prior felony conviction, was presented in front of a federal judge on Monday and is currently detained pending a detention hearing date, which has yet to be scheduled.

Valles Caldera: Final Phase Of Natural Gas Pipeline Decommissioning Begins

Work has begun on the third and final phase of decommissioning the retired natural gas pipeline that crosses the northern sections of Valles Caldera National Preserve. This phase continues with restoring natural ecological processes to a nine-mile-long section disturbed by the pipeline corridor, including reducing erosion, reconnecting wetlands, recontouring to promote natural revegetation, and removing evidence of the access road. During this reclamation work, the project area along with trail access from the park’s east boundary will be closed for the remainder of the year.

Rodent reported inside state public health building in Las Cruces
A state public health office in Las Cruces remained open on Monday, two weeks after state workers and the public reported seeing a rodent. Workers from three different state-run programs operating in the building reported encountering a rodent in late July, according to emails reviewed by Source New Mexico. Staff answered the main phone line on Monday morning and said it was still open.
