MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — The mayor of Milford wants to prevent new smoke, tobacco and vape shops from opening in the city.

Mayor Anthony Giannattasio has submitted an application proposing new zoning regulations that would prohibit the opening of new smoke, tobacco and vape shops in all city zoning districts.

“Smoke, tobacco and vape shops facilitate the sale of products that are harmful to one’s health and often employ marketing strategies that target young people,” Giannattasio said. “The health and safety of our community must come first.”

The mayor said he will present the proposed regulation at a planning and zoning board meeting on Aug. 21.
