Mullarkey home chosen as July Garden of the Month

The Mullarkey Home was chosen as the July Garden of the Month

The Milford Garden Club is pleased to announce its July Garden of the Month.  It is a beautiful Victorian home located at the corner of 11 N.E. 4th Street and N. Washington Street in Milford.  The house was built in the 1880’s on what was considered a “standard” lot in a downtown area.

Sean and Cindy Mullarkey purchased the property in 1982 and have lovingly maintained it ever since.  Sean is a retired State Trooper and is also retired from the Air Force Reserves.  Cindy is a multi-talented lady that enjoys maintaining their beautiful yard which includes several creative ways of displaying their flowers including a day bed and a bathtub.  She is also an ice skater and participates in adult competitions.

Cindy’s love of gardening came from her mother and grandmother, both of whom passed their talents on to her.  For the last 20 years, Cindy’s goal has been to establish a garden that would basically take care of itself.  She no longer plants annuals but has plants that are easy to care for and that reseed themselves. With this approach she has color in her yard through November and says she doesn’t care what color comes up where.  Some of the plants that she enjoys are vinca, roses, petunias, cannas, sunflowers, hosta, and hydrangea along with crepe myrtles, dogwoods and cedar trees.  Their Victorian home and property are a beautiful treasure right in downtown Milford.
