Junction City said goodbye to its longtime city manager Allen Dinkel on Wednesday in a retirement reception at the Municipal Building in Junction City. Dinkel, who has served 35 years in local government and the last 10 in Junction City said he doesn’t have any concrete plans at this time during retirement, but he hopes to spend most of it with family.

A Manhattan man lost his life in a two-vehicle crash in Washington County on an early Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred when 46-year-old Brian Dowling, driving an eastbound pickup truck on U.S. 36 Highway, attempted to pass another vehicle and collided with an oncoming semi, about five miles east of Cuba.

City sets property tax ceiling with nearly 14% increase
The average homeowner will see an increase of up to 13.6% in their Manhattan city property taxes next year, following a commission vote Tuesday. City commissioners at their meeting approved a resolution to levy a property tax exceeding the “revenue-neutral rate,” which is the rate at which the city would generate the same property tax revenue as the previous year using the current year’s assessed valuation.
