    VOTE: What is the MetroWest/Milford Daily News 2023-24 Boys High School Team of the Year?

    The dog days of summer are as good a time as any to reflect on the school year past.

    Some teams rose to the occasion. It was expected for a few, while others shocked with their success.

    But as with any group, the question becomes but who was THE BEST? Pound for pound, which team owned the 2023-24 school year? That's for you to decide. Vote for the What is the MetroWest/Milford Daily News 2023-24 Boys High School Team of the Year until July 29th at noon here (candidates listed alphabetically):

    Here's some more info on our candidates:

    Dover-Sherborn golf

    They reclaimed the state championship after moving up to Division 2. Charlie Cooper also was the individual medalist at the state tournament at Thorny Lea Golf Club. D-S also captured its third straight Central Mass sectional title, this time in Division 2.

    Dover-Sherborn/Weston boys ice hockey

    The Raiders captured the Division 4 state title at TD Garden, the first crown in program history. The were 21-4 and added a Tri-Valley League Small championship trophy to the case, as well. D-S/Weston knocked off the No. 4, No. 1 and No. 6 seeds en route to the championship.

    Franklin boys basketball

    The Panthers advanced to the Division 1 state final for the third time in their history. Franklin won the Hockomock title and ripped off a 22-game winning streak. The Panthers (25-2) were undefeated against in-state competition until the state final against Worcester North.

    Hopkinton boys soccer

    The Hillers advanced to the Division 2 Final Four for the second consecutive year. They captured a second straight TVL Large title. Hopkinton went 15-3-4 and ran off a 10-game unbeaten streak over a month from Oct. 13, 2023, to Nov. 11.

    Hudson football

    The Hawks broke through after two years of heartbreak and reached the Division 6 Final Four. Hudson went 9-3 and finally ended a 12-year losing streak against rival Marlborough on Thanksgiving.

    Milford football

    The Scarlet Hawks were state semifinalists for the third year in a row. They knocked off Hockomock rival North Attleborough to advance to the Division 3 Final Four. Milford went 10-2 and opened the year on a six-game winning streak.

    Milford baseball

    The Scarlet Hawks made their deepest tournament run since 1997 in reaching the Division 2 Final Four. They went 17-8.

    Milford boys volleyball

    A second straight trip to the Final Four cemented the status of the Scarlet Hawks' golden generation. They played one of the state's toughest schedules and went 16-6, winning seven games in a row late in the year.

    Natick boys volleyball

    The Redhawks were among the best teams in the state for much of the year and advanced to the Division 1 Final Four. They compiled a 17-4 record, only losing against Newton North and Needham, the two state finalists.

    Wayland boys volleyball

    The Warriors reached the Division 2 state final for the first time since 2017. They went 16-9 and were the third seed in the tournament.

    Wayland boys tennis

    After moving up to Division 2, the Warriors marched to the Final Four for the third year in a row.

    Wellesley boys track & field

    The Raiders placed second at the Division 2 indoor championships with one gold medal courtesy sprinter Christopher Brooks and three second-place finishes. Outdoors, Wellesley also placed second in Division 2. Brooks won the 100-meter dash and set a meet record in the 200, while Eli Merritt was first in the mile and 800. The Raiders also set a meet record in the 4x100 relay.

    Westborough boys tennis

    The Rangers ended three years of heartbreak by finally breaking through and winning the Division 2 state title. They survived three sets at every position against Duxbury, who took them down last season, before No. 1 singles player Kaden Chen broke through in a tiebreak. Westborough went 19-2 and won its last nine matches.
