    VOTE: Who is the MetroWest and Milford-area 2023-24 Male Athlete of the Year?

    Boy, he had quite the year.

    That can be said for athletes all over MetroWest and the Milford area. They raised banners, hoisted trophies and set records from the first swing of fall golf to the last pitch of the baseball season. But who had the best year?

    That's up for you to decide. Select from these 19 candidates that excelled throughout the 2023-24 school year, often across multiple sports and seasons. They are MVPs, state champions, college commits and hearts and souls.

    But who should be the Daily News Male Athlete of the 2023-24 school year? Vote below:

    Jake Attaway, Hudson

    The junior quarterback led the Hawks to the Final Four for the first time since 1991 . He ran for 1,565 yards and 25 touchdowns and threw for another 1,409 yards and 19 scores en route to being named the Mid-Wach C MVP. He added seven interceptions and five pass breakups to go along with 31 tackles as a safety. Attaway was also a Mid-Wach C all-star as a basketball player (13.1 points per game).

    Nico Begic, Lincoln-Sudbury

    He burst onto the scene as a sophomore, winning the 400-meter run at the Meet of Champions, emerging from the unseeded section . Begic also captured the Division 1 title in the 200 and was second in the 400 outdoors. Indoors, he set the school record in the 200 and was second at All-States.

    Miguel Borges, Marlborough

    The three-year starter at running back accumulated 949 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground for the Panthers as a senior. He was also a sectional champion and state runner up on the wrestling mat.

    Christopher Brooks, Wellesley

    The William & Mary-bound senior set the Division 2 meet record in the 200-meter dash and doubled his gold medal haul with a photo-finish victory in the 100. Indoors, he was the all-state champion in the 55 and placed third in the 300. Brooks was the D2 champion in the 55.

    Rex Cinelli, Franklin

    The backbone of the Panthers' boys soccer defense was the Hockomock MVP as a senior. He scored a career-high six goals with two assists and prevented far more. Cinelli was named All New England as well as All-State and an Eastern Mass. all-star. Franklin allowed just seven goals all season en route to a Division 1 quarterfinal berth . Cinelli also played outfielder on the Panthers' baseball team that played in two state championships and reached the Division 1 Round of 16 this year. He will attend the U.S. Air Force Academy.

    Brendan Estaphan, Westborough

    He helped the Rangers end three years of heartbreak with a Division 2 state boys tennis title as a senior. Estaphan played at No. 1 doubles throughout the tournament run. He also tied for ninth at the Division 1 Central golf championships and helped the Rangers qualify for the state tournament.

    Logan Greenlaw, Keefe Tech

    He was the Broncos' MVP and a Colonial Athletic League all-star for the second year in a row on the hardwood as a junior. He was second in the league scoring 14.8 points per game and averaged a double-double at 11 boards per game. Greenlaw, a junior, additionally helped the Keefe Tech boys volleyball team to the Division 2 Round of 16 and a 15-game winning streak as a CAL all-star.

    Jake Haarde, Lincoln-Sudbury

    The senior will join the Penn State baseball program next season . He was a Dual County League selection after hitting .314 with four doubles, three homers and 16 RBIs. Haarde is a three-time DCL all-star. His exploits on the diamond followed a star turn on the gridiron. Haarde made 37 tackles and added four interceptions and two pass breakups. He added 21 catches for 336 yards and five touchdowns while racking up a DCL all-league spot.

    Jackson Hunt, Hopedale

    The Blue Raiders two-time captain starred in nearly every distance running discipline. In the fall, he was second at the Dual Valley Conference Championship and seventh at the Coaches Invitational. Hunt placed in the top 10 at divisionals and competed at all-states. Indoors, he took first in the mile and two-mile at the DVC championships and was named the DVC Runner of the Year. He placed fourth at the Division 5 championships in the two-mile and was the District E champ in the mile. Outdoors, Hunt won the 2-mile at the DVC championships and was third in the mile. He will run at WPI next year.

    Jack Ianelli, Hopkinton

    The senior helped the Hillers reach the Division 2 boys soccer Final Four for the second year in a row . They also won a second straight Tri-Valley league title. He scored 12 goals with five assists and was named All-State and an Eastern Mass. All-star. Hopkinton also captured the TVL Large boys basketball championship with Ianelli at point guard. He was a TVL all-star and averaged 14.8 points, 4.1 assists and 3.3 steals per game.

    Keith Lee, Milford

    He's started at center and middle linebacker each of the past three years, as the Scarlet Hawks advanced to the Final Four for the third year in a row . Lee was a Hockomock League Kelley-Rex All-Star for football. The senior will play baseball at Brandeis next year. Lee was the starting catcher for the Scarlet Hawks baseball team that also reached the state semifinals. He hit .382 with nine doubles, a triple, 19 RBIs, 20 runs, 20 walks.

    Ari Levine, Hopedale

    Just a sophomore, he blossomed into one of the state's elite throwers. Levine took fourth indoors in the shot put at the Meet of Champions then was ninth at both New Englands and the New Balance nationals. He won the DVC title and was undefeated in league meets. Outdoors, Levine set the school record in the discus and took second at the Division 6 championships in the shot put (ninth at meet of champions). He was the District E Division 2 shot put champion.

    Kaua Lima, Holliston

    The electric dual-threat quarterback was the engine to Holliston's offense in the Panthers' run to the Division 4 quarterfinals . He threw for 1,112 yards and 10 touchdowns and ran for another 730 yards and 10 scores, earning TVL Large Offensive Player of the Year and first team All-Star honors. Lima holds the school's indoor and outdoor high jump records. He won the Division 4 indoor high jump championship at 6-foot-2.

    Matthew Mahoney, Lincoln-Sudbury

    He was a captain on the ice as a senior defenseman. Mahoney scored three goals with six assists from the blue line and led the Warriors to the Division 1 Round of 32 after a preliminary round victory over Lexington. He's a three-time DCL all-star. Mahoney will pitch for Colby next season. He was one of the dangerous arms atop L-S' rotation this spring , as the Warriors advanced to the Division 1 Round of 16.

    Luc Masse, AMSA

    He led Marlborough's boys hockey co-op with 11 goals and had nine assists en route to a Central Mass. All-Star selection as a senior. On the lacrosse field, Masse set program records for goals (65) and points (86) and was named a CAL All-Star for the third year in a row. He finished his lacrosse career with 119 goals.

    Max Niit, Dover-Sherborn

    He helped the Raiders ( with their Weston co-op ) win their first state championship at TD Garden . Niit scored 10 goals and added two assists. The senior was also a TVL all-star for the D-S boys lacrosse team, which advanced to the Division 3 Round of 16.

    Sean O’Leary, Franklin

    The two-time Hockomock boys basketball MVP led the Panthers to the Division 1 state championship game . He'll play at Bates next season and averaged scored 16.5 points per game with 5.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists and a steal per game. O'Leary also was named an Eastern Mass All-Star as a defender on the soccer field.

    Charlie Potter, Dover-Sherborn

    He won the Division 2 individual state title with a 1-over 71 at Thorny Lea and led the Raiders to a team state championship. That followed a co-medalist honor at the D2 sectional tournament and another team sectional victory . Potter was the TVL MVP and holds course records at Sassamon Trace and Pinecrest .

    Dylan Sullivan, Tri-County

    He was a Mayflower All-Star on the football field after carrying the ball for 1,005 yards and six touchdowns to go along with 15 catches for 266 yards and five touchdowns. he also added 85 tackles, four forced fumbles, three interceptions, four sacks and eight tackles for loss. That athleticism transferred to the lacrosse field, where he is a three-time Mayflower League all-star. Sullivan won 83 percent of his face offs and had 27 goals and 14 assists. the senior tallied more than 100 career goals and was the school's male co-athlete of the year.

    Cooper Tarantino, Lincoln-Sudbury

    The senior will play baseball at Northeastern next season. He hit .431 with nine doubles and three homers, including a game-winning grand slam in the state tournament . Tarantino added 28 RBIs and was a DCL all-league player for the second year in a row. He was also L-S' starting quarterback and an all-league performer behind center in the fall. The Warriors won their fourth DCL Large title in the past five years. He accumulated 1,091 total yards and 24 touchdowns.
