PA Senate hearing on combating antisemitism on college campuses
DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. — Today in Harrisburg, the Pennsylvania Senate Education Committee held a public hearing on antisemitism on Pennsylvania college campuses. The committee is reviewing its own policies regarding harassment and hate-speech, after large protests broke out at universities across the state. Most notably, investigations into campus conduct have been sparked at Penn State University, University of Pittsburgh, and University of Pennsylvania.
Lycoming County Commissioners: Opioid settlements, equipment grants, and phone scams
Williamsport, Pa. — During Thursday's meeting, the Lycoming County Commissioners discussed new funding and grant applications and addressed phone scams and safety. The County Commissioners voted and approved several agenda items at Thursday's morning meeting. Director of Admission, Matt McDermott, presented one of the meeting’s bigger agenda items: ratifying Wave Two Settlements, which is money allocated for the purpose of addressing the opioid epidemic. The approval would allow the next round of opioid payments to be released and sent to rehabilitation centers and other local organizations that help people with opioid addictions.

CATA Increases Hours for Service from Centre Region to County Government Buildings in Bellefonte
A recently introduced Centre Area Transportation Authority service providing access from the Centre Region to county government buildings in Bellefonte will be available for more hours starting Monday, July 29. Service from State College to the Willowbank Building and the Centre County Courthouse will now be offered from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., an increase of five hours per day. PennDOT Sets Next Public Meeting for State College Area Connector Project
PennDOT has moved to the next phase for the planned State College Area Connector and will hold its first public meeting on the project since 2022 in August. The department and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) published on Wednesday a Notice of Intent to Prepare an Environmental Impact Statement. The notice initiates the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) phase of project development, which includes preliminary engineering and environmental studies. Police: Inmate caught concealing Suboxone in clothing
Lewisburg, Pa. — An inmate in Union County was charged for concealing Suboxone while he was incarcerated, police say. A correctional officer at Union County Prison found the Suboxone on March 26 while doing a search on 22-year-old Coal Nevin Inch. The officer noticed there was a rip in the waistband of Inch's shorts. When he took a closer look, the officer found a small, plastic Ziploc bag inside the rip that contained an orange pill that he suspected was Suboxone, according to the affidavit. ...
