Millburn Township Committee Issues a Proclamation Honoring Its Parks & Recreation Department

MILLBURN, NJ — Parks and Recreation Month is July, and the township committee used the occasion to honor Millburn’s Parks and Recreation Department for all its arduous work and success.
During the recent committee meeting, Parks and Recreation Department liaison Committee Member Ben Stoller read the proclamation:
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation is an integral part of communities throughout this country, including the township of Milburn; and
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation promotes health and wellness, improving the physical and mental health of people who participate in recreation programs; and
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation promotes time spent in nature, which positively impacts mental health by increasing cognitive performance and well-being and alleviating illnesses such as depression, attention deficit disorders and Alzheimer’s; and
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation encourages park recreation and education activities such as out of school time programming, youth, sports and environmental education — are critical to childhood development; and
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation increases the community's economic prosperity through increased property values, expansion of the local tax base, increased tourism, the attraction and retention of businesses and crime reduction; and
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation is fundamental to the environmental well-being of our community and is an essential and adaptable infrastructure that makes our communities resilient in the face of natural disasters and climate change; and
WHEREAS, our parks and natural recreation areas ensure the ecological beauty of our community and provide a place for children and adults to connect with nature and recreate outdoors; and
WHEREAS, the US House of Representatives has designated July as Parks and Recreation month; and
NOW, THEREFORE, be resolved by the Township Committee of the Township of Millburn in the county of Essex, State of New Jersey recognizes the benefits derived from Parks and Recreation resources and proclaims July as Parks and Recreation month in the Township of Millburn.
Recreation Leader Joe Iacono accepted the proclamation. “Thank you township committee. Thank you, Mayor. Thank you, our liaison Mr. Stoller. Recently, our Rec Director Chris Myers was sworn in as State Recreation Commission President.” He continued, “[Myers] is the second Milburn director to receive such an honor. The other one, George Bauer, has a building named after him. On behalf of Mr. Meyers, my fellow Commissioners and the entire rec commission and the rec staff, I proudly accept his proclamation. Thank you so much. Thank you.”
