Professional Baker/Millburn Resident Makes Healthy & Delicious Dog Treats

MILLBURN, NJ – Millburn resident Nastassja Ocasio opened Betty Cakes Barkery Bites in 2021. She shared, “Our goal is to provide you with wholesome, healthy, all-natural ingredients that your dogs will love, you will trust and you both can eat together!” Betty Cakes Barkery Bites makes everything in small batches from its home base in Millburn. Their beautiful confections look delicious and are for pooch and human consumption.

Before beginning her dog treat company, Ocasio was a professional baker for almost a decade. Now she’s using her baking and decorating skills to help pet owners show their fur babies how much they love them. She graduated from Seton Hall University with a BA in English and then earned a Pastry and Baking Arts Degree from The Institute of Culinary Education in NYC.

She worked at Carlo’s Bakery and Magnolia Bakery in New York City as a cake decorator before relocating to a family-owned bakery in Morristown, NJ. According to Ocasio, “The change from working in a crowded, bustling city to a quieter, more residential neighborhood was exactly what I needed to start focusing on pursuing my own dreams.” She added, “I took everything I learned, loved and was passionate about and combined it with my love for dogs. If humans can have healthy and delicious treats of all kinds, dogs should be allowed the same luxury.”

Betty Cakes Barkery Bites specializes in various types of “barkday” cakes, “pupcakes,” cookies, treats, donuts, “woofles,” brownies, pretzels and their very popular gender reveal cakes. In addition, they recently created a variety of party packages that cater to groups of six or 12.

When Ocasio isn’t baking gourmet treats for canines, she’s participating in dog-related events, festivals, farmers markets and collaborating with various pet clinics and adoption agencies.

She’s looking forward to adopting her own dog because her apartment board recently approved allowing pups. “Growing up, I had friends and family members who had dogs, so I was always around them. I couldn’t have one because I lived in an apartment.” Ocasio added, ‘My partner of 14 years had a beautiful husky when we met and she was one of the best dogs I had ever known. Her name was Skye.”
