    Vaught, Skogen shine again in CC

    The Mille Lacs Raiders cross country team traveled south to Fairway Shores Golf Course in Zimmerman for the Princeton Invitational meet Thursday, August 29, 2024. With schools Becker, Braham, Cambridge-Isanti, Elk River, Heritage Christian Academy, Monticello, Pine City, Spectrum, St. Cloud Christian, Zimmerman, and Princeton attending, this was a large meet.

    In a field of 78 varsity girls, Abigail Skogen finished 32nd with a time of 24:43. Just a few minutes later at 27:52, Kylie Lorentz completed the race in 57th place.

    With a total of 109 varsity boys, Josiah Mueller, Micah Gray, and Cory Carlson worked together to battle the heat and hills during the race. Mueller finished in 25:23 in 91st place followed by Gray just three seconds after. Carlson finished immediately after Gray at 25:34.

    David Carlson ran in the middle school 2K (1.25 mile) race with 41 other boys. He finished with a time of 14:01.

    The final race of the meet saw sophomore Hunter Vaught win the junior varsity 3K (1.86 mile) with a time of 11:52; he beat 25 other runners. It was the second time in the first two meets where Vaught has finished in the top 10 in his race.

    The team will compete at the Pine City Invitational on Thursday, Sept. 5 and the following week in Mora on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
