With a convincing win over the Ogilvie Lions in three straight sets on Sept. 5, the Mille Lacs Raiders volleyball squad is now 2-0 for the season and in the Great River Conference as they enter the third week of play. Two more conference games on Sept. 10 and 12, followed by a Saturday tournament in Crosby are in store for the Raiders in week three.

Onamia High was the site of the conference volleyball match between the Mille Lacs Raiders and the Ogilvie Lions on Sept. 5.

Although the temperature and humidity in the OHS gym was hot and muggy, the Raiders barely broke a sweat on the way to a 3-set sweep of the Lions.

Game one saw the Raiders out-kill the Lions 14-4, led by six slams off the hand of Jenna Carlson on the way to a 25-13 win.

The Raiders fell behind 6-2 to start the second set, but responded with a 7-0 run off the service of Brianna Nayquonabe and never looked back, again out-killing the Lions, 14-4.

Game three was a 25-9 rout, highlighted by six aces and again aw 14-4 advantage in kills.

For the contest, Mille Lacs had a total of 43 kills, 12 aces, including five off the hand of Ava Rogers, and nine service errors, compared to Ogilvie’s 12 kills, no aces and no service errors.

Leading the Raiders in kills were Carlson with 13, followed by eight each from Nayquonabe and Danie Larson, six by Batiste Gahbow and five from Mariah Remer.
