A new advanced imaging system just made its debut at Riverwood Healthcare Center in Aitkin. The DynaCAD imaging system will be used for breast and prostate MRIs, which were previously unavailable at Riverwood.

The biggest benefit of the DynaCAD software is that it provides the radiologist with the technology needed for reading and interpreting breast and prostate MRI’s. Playing an important role in the diagnosis of cancer, MRI images can also be used for templating and guidance for biopsies.

Breast Imaging Coordinator Lynn Wenzel comments: “Offering breast MRI’s locally at Riverwood is fantastic news for our patients. It enhances accessibility to crucial diagnostic tools and ensures timely screenings for those at high risk of breast cancer. By providing this service alongside mammogram and other breast-imaging tests, patients receive comprehensive care that prioritizes early detection and effective treatment. The convenience of scheduling at Riverwood streamlines the process for patients, making it easier for them to prioritize their health.”

The DynaCAD system will also benefit men needing a prostate MRI for the diagnosis of prostate cancer as well as other conditions.

“The DynaCAD imaging system can integrate prostate MRI into prostate biopsy, explains Elizabeth Lilley, physician assistant who sees urology patients at Riverwood’s specialty clinic. “This is called a fusion biopsy and allows us to accurately target any suspicious lesion that was noted on MRI.”

An MRI provides a three-dimensional image of the prostate to include any concerning lesions. The MRI also assesses nearby lymph nodes and bones, which can be instrumental in the timely development of treatment for a more aggressive or advanced prostate cancer.

Lilley adds, “The prostate MRI in combination with DynaCAD technology will allow us to keep our patients close to home for prostate cancer screening, diagnosis, and formulation of treatment plan. Prior to Riverwood having this technology, having to send patients to Grand Rapids or Saint Cloud resulted in a significant wait time from outside facilities to get patients in for imaging, and then for us to receive their imaging disc. For those who have had concerns for cancer in the past, they know a few weeks can make all the difference. Now, patients can get their prostate cancer screening, prostate MRI, prostate biopsy, and potentially robotic-assisted prostate surgery all through Riverwood.”

Foundation Director Tanya Pietz comments, “We are deeply grateful for the remarkable generosity of our donors. Their contributions are vital to our mission of delivering exceptional health care to the communities we serve. Through donors’ continued partnership and support, we can expand our services, improve patient experiences, and foster innovation in rural health.”
