Com_UNITY Ministries celebrates their 5-year anniversary
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - One Lima organization is celebrating their 5-year anniversary of their pursuit to curb violence and encourage unity in the city. On Monday evening, Com_UNITY Ministries gathered with residents to celebrate those 5 years with a "Praise and Prayer Picnic." The evening was also filled with honor as organizers held a "Remembrance Wall" where the names of 45 Lima citizens who lost their lives to violence. The religious group formed in 2019, following a series of shootings in June of that year, and since their inception, they have been working hard to fulfill a mission of peace and unification.

Lima's Mulcahy, former Kentucky All-American Castle qualify for Dana Open
Mary Kelly Mulcahy’s year has reached a level of implausibility that she didn’t foresee. The Lima native writes down her goals before each golf season, crossing them off when completed. “National player of the year was one of them. Palmer Cup was one of them. This wasn’t one of them, but I guess it’s probably the best one of all,” Mulcahy said just before sunset Monday at Highland Meadows after qualifying for the Dana Open in a playoff. It’s the continuation of a golf dream that includes being named the Division II player of the year at the University of Findlay and going 4-0 in the Palmer Cup while leading the Americans to victory in Ireland.

Mercy college names new VP of Academic Affairs
A long-time Mercy Health employee has been named vice president of academic affairs and dean of faculty at Mercy College of Ohio. Kimberly Watson will oversee the college’s academic programs, providing strategic direction and leadership to ensure continued growth and success, Mercy said in a statement. She will retain her rank as professor of health sciences. Ms. Watson has served the Mercy Health ministry for more than 35 years in various administrative and faculty roles, most recently as the dean of the Division of Health Sciences and director of the Master of Health Administration program. Ms. Watson holds a Doctor of Education in Leadership Studies with a cognate in Higher Education Administration from Bowling Green State University. She obtained a Master of Business Administration from Tiffin University and a Bachelor of Science in Medical Records Administration from BGSU. She also is a registered health information administrator.

LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The Lima Rotary Club heard more about the Allen Lima Leadership program on Monday. Allen Lima Leadership celebrates its 35th anniversary this year. Since 1989, over 1000 people have graduated from the courses, and the program is continuously improving the curriculum and adding more interactive lessons with local business and government leaders. Students enrolled learn all about how the organizations and companies that make Lima run smoothly operate and how they can apply the skills used by their leaders to improve their own careers and communities. Many Rotarians are graduates themselves.

Family of murdered couple speaks at defendants' sentencing
Eighteen months after the murders of Malinda Moore, 28, and Brent Roscoe, 36, their families had a chance to address two women involved in their deaths. Fourteen family members filled the spectators’ seats in the Lucas County Common Pleas courtroom of Judge Ian English for the sentencings Monday of Riley Franke and Camryn Chase. In April, Franke pleaded guilty to burglary and robbery and Chase pleaded guilty to two counts of murder. Judge English sentenced Franke, 20, of the 2300 block of Starr Avenue in Oregon, to 13 to 16 years in prison and Chase, 24, of the 500 block of Leach Avenue in Toledo, to two consecutive life terms with parole eligibility after 30 years. Chase faced more severe charges for her role as a planner and for actually entering the house to carry out the Nov. 10, 2022, robbery and murders. She did not, however, pull the trigger that killed the young couple. Their shooter, Prince Jones, 24, died in a shootout with police in East Toledo several hours after the crime.
