The Millersburg Food Run is set to take off at 8 a.m. Sunday, July 28, along the Holmes County Trail in Millersburg.

The Millersburg Food Run 10k, 5k and 1-mile races began in 2018 as a way for the Millersburg Seventh-day Adventist Church to help meet the needs of Holmes County families. Proceeds from the race are donated to the Love Center Food Pantry.

“It’s exciting to see how the race has grown since we started,” said Eva Durbin, race director. “Each year we have more participants and new business sponsors − meaning we’ve been able to raise more for the Love Center. It’s really thanks to community support that we’ve been able to see the race grow the way it has.”

Since the race began in 2018 it has raised a $17,560 for the Love Center.

The Love Center Food Pantry has been servicing the needs of Holmes County since 1986. Nearly 1,000 families use the food pantry, which processes over 660,000 pounds of food a year.

Director Edgar Raber of the Love Center Food Pantry notes that because the food pantry is able to purchase large quantities of food from the Akron-Canton Foodbank for less than grocery store prices, financial donations go farther than donated food items. The Christian ministry is supported by businesses and congregations throughout Holmes County.

    About the race

There will be competitive, professionally timed, 5k and 10k courses and a non-competitive 1-mile course. There is a child entry fee for the 1-mile race so the whole family can participate. Runners, joggers, walkers − all are welcome.

The race is an out-and-back course on a flat, paved path starting at Hipp Station Depot, 62 N. Grant St., near downtown Millersburg, and runs through wooded areas and farm fields along the Holmes County Trail.

There will be a beverage and snack table for participants after the race and all participants will receive a medal, goodie bag and a ticket for prize drawing of gift baskets.

T-shirts will be on a first-come first-served basis for registrations. Gift basket donations are from businesses including AutoZone Auto Parts, E&H Ace Hardware, Heini’s Cheese, Long Lane Woodworks and Star Brite Car Wash.
