Once again, PennLive’s investigative reporting is raising valid questions about murky financial dealings in Dauphin County government. Taxpayers should pay close attention. A few weeks ago, PennLive’s Juliette Rihl uncovered a serious lack of transparency in million-dollar grants the county awarded for several years to Visit Hershey & Harrisburg. The county plowed millions of dollars into the tourism agency after it contracted consulting services of Maria Haste, wife of Dauphin County Commissioner Jeff Haste (R).

Memorial garden to honor babies in unmarked graves at Cumberland County cemetery
More than 100 babies buried in unmarked graves will be honored this weekend at the unveiling of a memorial garden in a Cumberland County cemetery. One hundred and eighteen babies in unmarked graves have been buried at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in New Cumberland since 1895, according to the cemetery’s website. Officials said records of the children were recently found in archived files.
Dauphin County mall tenants make do as closure drags on for another day
Once again, the doors are locked at the Colonial Park Mall in Lower Paxton Township. The mall at 4600 Jonestown Road has been closed since Sept. 22 following a storm last weekend that impacted parts of Lower Paxton Township. The storm damaged properties near Elmerton Avenue and flooded a part of the Capital Pointe apartment complex, located across Colonial Road from the mall.
