Nature is amazing. Triplets are incredibly rare with any living organism, but it's especially monumental when a mother moose welcomes three calves into the world. Think of all the things that have to go right for a wild animal to successfully have and raise three babies at the same time. According to moose biologist Lee Kantar, the probability of a moose having triplets is 1 in 105,000. Just to give you some things to relate to, getting struck by lightning has lifetime odds of 1 in 15,000, so these three moose calves are truly something special. It's somewhat of an "against all odds" scenario. This video, taken near Baxter State Park in Millinocket, Maine, shows the massive mother moose leading her kiddos down a road with some beautiful scenery in the background. The three young moose (almost said "meese" right there) are following along, sticking together and staying close to their mama. They'll need to soak up the time they have with their mom, because the growing up process for young moose is a quick one. Since they can stand up the day they come out of the womb, they are also generally quick to pick up on other moose-related activities. By the time they are five days old, most young moose are able to run at speeds that would be faster than that of a human being. And around one or two years old, the mothers send their offspring on their way to face the real world on their own. The babies in this video still have plenty of time with their mother, but as you'll be able to see, they are already quite capable of trekking around the Maine landscape. loved ) the clip, and left these supportive comments below the post: "Incredible! I hope they grow strong and healthy and live long happy lives." "That poor Mama Moose. That must have been an ordeal. So glad they all survived!" "I can't believe I'm seeing three babies! I thought twins were rare but this is magnificent." "My, that's a lot of babies but they are so adorable." "Filmed from a nice safe distance, too." Great point. Historically, we've seen way too many examples of people getting way too close to wildlife in order to capture a video...
