Cambridge Springs Fireman’s Carnival returns for its 70th year
The Cambridge Springs Fireman’s Carnival is back for its 70th year to support operating expenses for the organization. “It’s our largest fundraiser, so it goes for equipment upgrades, training, repairs and all kinds of things. The community supports us, and it’s all about community helping community,” said Kathi Camp, chairman of the Cambridge Springs Volunteer Fire Department.

On May 5 Jonah’s Call Anglican Church moved into its new location at 907 Middle St. The move converted Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church to an Anglican Church that traces its “spiritual heritage back through the historic Church of England,” according to the church’s website. “Jonah’s Call” is in reference to the Prophet Jonah, “who was called upon to preach the news of God’s love to a city that needed to hear it,” according to Jonah 3:1-10 in the Bible.

Pirates make their first move at the MLB trade deadline
The Pittsburgh Pirates kicked off their MLB trade deadline with a minor league trade by sending outfielder Gilberto Celestino to the Chicago Cubs for cash considerations. Celestino was acquired by the Pirates last offseason from the Minnesota Twins. He had a solid spring training, but was ultimately optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis. He has spent the season playing all three outfield positions and has been a decent hitter at the plate.

Big Man One-on-Ones from WVU's final one day camp
West Virginia University held their final one-day camp of the summer on Thursday, with just over one hundred prospects making their way to Morgantown to take part in the event. Among them were a couple dozen offensive and defensive linemen, several of which were receiving serious interest from the Mountaineers.
